L'indépendance énergétique grâce aux combustibles fossiles est une utopie.

L'eau se fait rare? On va fracturer au diesel!
Les carburants diesel continuent à être utilisés dans la fracturation hydraulique, malgré les risques connus pour la santé et en violation de la Safe Drinking Water Act (LSEP). L'analyse par SkyTruth d'une base de données provenant de l'industrie a permis de constater que du kérosène et du diesel # 1 et # 2 ont été utilisés à 448 reprises dans 12 États entre janvier 2011 et août 2012.
Lorsque le Congrès américain a adopté l'Energy Policy Act de 2005, il y a inclus la désormais tristement célèbre "Loophole Halliburton," une clause controversée qui soustrayait pratiquement tout produit utilisé dans la fracturation des règlements de l'Environmental Protection Agency (EPA). Cependant, en dépit de ce laisser-passer pour ouvrir la Boîte de Pandore, les carburants diesel étaient restés interdits.
